Millie
One of the things we love about our work is getting to know families ,capturing key moments in their lives – birthdays, celebrations, new additions and so on.
Back in summer 2018, we photographed Anna with her horse Stan, on the eve of her selling him to go to university. So we were thrilled when mum Celia got in touch late in 2019, to purchase an equine shoot for her elder daughter Millie, as a gift for her 21st birthday.
Millie owns Leo, a 15 year old 15h grey Connemara gelding, who joined the family back in 2013. Millie told me he’s a very cuddly horse who loves being fussed and will do anything for a polo – my kind of horse!
Before the shoot, Millie and I spent some time planning the specifics of her session and the kinds of shots she wanted to achieve, ideally. Afterwards, I asked her which images from the whole set were her favourite/s: “It’s impossible to pick a favourite shot as all the photos are amazing, but I would have to choose the black background shot of Leo (below) as one of my favourites, as it is absolutely stunning and a specific photo I really wanted from the shoot. I also really loved how all the photos in our ‘top field’ set turned out, the sun was perfect and gives the photos a golden tint which makes them even more stunning.”

As well as Leo, we photographed the newest addition to the family, Harry, a five year old New Forest pony which Millie bought as a ‘project’ – who has the most stunning dark grey dapples!
And finally we couldn’t miss out cheeky ‘Chico’ the family’s mini Shetland who is Leo’s field companion – definitely a cover star in his own right, who had been clipped and scrubbed and buffed for his shoot. Just too cute to miss out!
Leo behaved impeccably on his shoot, and was even chilled about us firing off flashes and holding up some big reflectors to get the last few shots. We can see why Millie loves this boy so much!
