I first met Anu & Brad in a cafe in Tetbury on a wet and windy day back in March 2015. I had just spent the day at a horse show, so I turned up feeling bedraggled and I’m pretty sure my hair resembled a birds nest but as soon as I settled into having a tea with these two in the cosy bar at the Ormond hotel, I felt at ease. They were just so much fun, easy going and so complimentary of our work, that the hour flew by and we parted company, with them having booked us to capture their wedding day.

We were thrilled they had chosen us, not just because they are such lovely people but we also loved the amazing cultural mix which we could see their wedding day would embrace. Anu’s family are from Sri Lanka, Brad’s from Zimbabwe, and they were planning a traditional Sinhalese ceremony with a Poruwa, followed by an English ceremony, in the cloistered courtyard at the beautiful Matara Centre in Kingscote.

The day dawned August last year and we were chuffed to have a sunny dry day as we headed off to capture their pre-wedding preparations. The Sinhalese ceremony was spectacular, with the two parties being danced into the room by traditional Sri Lankan dancers, each with their attendants, and the ceremony officiant leading them through the traditional marriage rituals. This was followed by a beautiful English marriage ceremony in the Matara courtyard with guests watching and the register then being signed. We could see the emotion and love written all over their faces as they headed back up the aisle together married! Everyone joined them for some mingle, canapes, and drinks outside, while we took photographs and captured all the fun.

After dinner we stepped outside for a few last light couple shots in the tranquil surroundings of Matara, a lovely window of 20 mins away from the crowds on a beautiful summers evening. The speeches followed and we were then all treated to a fabulous first dance by the couple to the sounds of Brad’s sister singing, simply amazing!
