‘I don’t know how to put these photographs into words, they are incredible! Jo & Nic were amazing and made me feel completely at ease. I loved the whole evening of my shoot, especially riding bareback at sunset.

The photographs have captured my relationship with each of my four horses and their individual personalities perfectly!’.

Some shoots are just sublime experiences where the weather, location, horses and clothing all come together on the day, and Maddie’s shoot was one of those!

One August afternoon last year, we headed to Coylton in North Devon to meet Maddie and her 3 horses Samson, Goose and Freddie plus her pony, Danny. This was our third attempt at this session, having been hindered by poor weather and lameness, so we were thrilled to be on the road, and finally going ahead!

We arrived about 5ish, and had a look around Maddie’s beautiful stables and location at home, then we settled on clothing choices to fit the different sets of images: shorts and a sleeveless top for stable shots (it was warm!), followed by a short summery dress for some natural, green background shots; and finally, the piece de resistance, a stunning long dress Maddie had bought especially for the shoot, in a soft powder blue colour. Just beautiful!

We were worried with this shoot that we would run out of time to achieve all the shots we wanted to, given the number of horses, but in the event, they were all so well behaved, it all went really smoothly and quickly. We started with Samson, above, Maddie’s beautiful spotty horse, then moved on to Goose and Fred and finally, Maddie’s cheeky pony, Danny. We loved the connection and fun Maddie had with each of her horses!

With the first set of shots in the bag, Maddie had a clothing change, we stopped for some tea and yummy home made cake, and we cracked on and photographed Maddie with a couple of the horses in some natural, green backgrounds we liked around the fields and yard.

For the last set of shots, with Maddie’s dress, we chose Goose to be the model, and he behaved impeccably – being ridden bareback, flash lighting – nothing was too much for him! Super horse!

Our final shot, above, was taken just as the sun set at 9pm, and made the perfect finish to a glorious evening!

‘The photos from my shoot are just stunning, I loved them all, it was hard to choose which ones to have in an album! I couldn’t recommend photographs by Jo & Nic anymore for memories to treasure for a lifetime, you really won’t regret it!’
