A week ago, this little chap walked into our lives, cheeky and full of mischief!

Meet Cal, an orphan foal, born about a week ago. His mum had died, and the owners of our yard had kindly offered to take him in and look after him, just two days old.

As soon as I heard the news on Sunday morning, I got my kit ready and couldn’t wait to head to the yard, to look after my horse Estrela, and meet the new addition! By the time I was there, he was already settling in well and being fed replacement milk every few hours.

He was so tiny, with long spindly legs, he looked so vulnerable. But as we soon realised, he was also very cheeky, confident and bold – so he was named ‘Rascal’, stable name Cal.

That afternoon was sunny and warm, so when he had a little frolick around the field, I grabbed my camera and to capture some memories of him enjoying his new home. Such a wonderful, uplifting sight!

Naturally, all of us are completely smitten with this cheeky character who is keeping us all on our toes with his feeding and exercise routine……

More Cal stories to follow as he grows!
