One of the things I love about equine photoshoots is finishing a shoot with the horse being ‘turned out’ or at liberty in his or her field. For me, this is the closest you get to seeing the true, wild energy and nature of a horse – when horses move, they really express themselves. They also make the most incredible shapes and curves, which is what makes is so interesting for us as photographers – capturing the real essence of a horse.

This was ten minutes at the end of Maria and Lauren’s shoot last week, after lots of ‘posing’ of our equine models. Im not sure Twilight, Maria’s Welsh section D Cob, pictured, was impressed with our pfaffing with lights, cameras and locations and I’m pretty sure his ‘explosion’ at the end of the shoot was a relief…..It was such an amazing sight seeing him gallop and buck!

Maria tells me Twilight is a “cheeky chap”, who is always getting into mischief. He definitely has that naughty glint in his eyes!

I love all these 4 shots, but especially this first shot and the last one, where he’s looking so directly at the camera – which one is yours?

If you’re interested in an equine photoshoot with your horse or want to find out more, we’d love to hear from you, feel free to drop us a line here. Its £150 for a full equine photoshoot of  2-3 hours or £75 for a yard shoot, min 2 people per yard, and 90 minute shoots. As well as capturing horses in the Cotswolds, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, we can travel for equine photoshoots.
