We thought this shot deserved a little mention on our blog. It was taken at the amazing Golega horse fair in Portugal last November, late one night with the horses and riders huddled around the bars on their Lusitano horses. The rider pictured looking back is Joao Pedro Cardiga.  The scene really caught my eye, the lighting, the hats and the atmosphere – something I suspect we would never see here in UK!

Just before Christmas we entered it into the  ‘Documentary’ class of the Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers (SWPP) Annual 20×16″ Print Competition, which attracts entries from photographers all over the world. The competition was judged at the SWPP Convention in January, and although unfortunately we weren’t able to attend this year,  our photograph gained a merit and second place overall in the Documentary section of the competition. Yay!
