We were thrilled to have young eventer Lydia Ward on board as one of or Young Sponsored Riders last year! Lydia is a 17 year old eventer based up in Broadway, in the Cotswolds, who had recently bought a new horse, Leo, when we met her for the first time early in 2018.

We could see Lydia was a talented young rider who was forming a great partnership with her new horse, Leo, a 5 year old KWPN, Dutch warmblood. Lydia told me: “Last year was so much fun, with no pressure and was a great opportunity for Leo and I to get to know each other. We became a great team as a result, had a lot of trust in each other. Winning the Dengie dressage finals was definitely a big highlight, although winning the Pony Club and the NSEA eventing championships was a great achievement for us both too.”. That sounds like a pretty successful year to us, to say the least! Well done Lydia and Leo.

We planned Lydia’s shoot to take place in the spring, at her grandad’s farm where the horses are stabled. One of the most fun aspects of this shoot was that the family own a vintage car which Jane, Lydia’s mum, offered to bring along as a prop for the shoot. We love anything a bit different – so we were excited about this and how we could incorporate it along with our models, Lydia and Leo, into a beautiful Cotswold backdrop! Lydia also chose some great clothes for her session – from casuals, to a bold, vibrant red dress, and black culottes – all of which added to the style and variety of the shoot.

As well as Leo, We also photographed ‘Chequers’ – who was Lydia’s event pony before Leo came along, and whom they have owned for 8 years. One of the things I love most about equine shoots is getting to meet and get to know all the different personalities in the horses, who are always such different characters! “He has a very chilled out disposition,” Lydia told me of Chequers ” he is almost like the old man – apart from the fact that he finds the most pathetic things extremely scary!”

We loved having you as a part of our team last year Lydia! Here are a few of our favourites from the shoot – with a little clip of us working behind the scenes – we hope you enjoy it!
