Our Young Rider Sponsorship programme developed from a desire to give something back to the equestrian community. We’re committed to supporting talented, passionate young riders and want to help those who need a little extra support and inspiration.

Every year, three riders aged 12-26 receive sponsorship, support and advice designed to help them take their equestrian skills to the next level.

Pictured left, Amelia James with her pony ‘Steve’, who was our first Young Sponsored Rider in 2014.

Whether dressage, eventers or show-jumpers, young riders face huge emotional challenges, such as competition nerves and disappointment when things go wrong.

We partnered with the British para-equestrian and Olympic gold medallist, Natasha Baker MBE, to provide specialist mentoring that will equip our young riders with the skills and resilience they need to succeed.

“I am so thrilled at the idea of passing on my knowledge to young riders. I can’t wait to help them reach their full potential. After the joy of winning three gold medals at Rio, it would be another dream come true if I could inspire these talented young people to fulfil their own dreams and aspirations.”

As well as an equine photoshoot with us and a branded horse rug and saddlepad, each of these riders receives ongoing mentoring and support throughout 2019.

Laura Bingham, 14, from Gloucestershire, is a young eventer, competing at BE100 on her dun pony, ‘Lyon’, whom she has owned for 4 years. Laura is enjoying training with the BE U18 programme and would love to be selected for the Central team to compete at Frickley Park championships this year. She has also joined the BE Pony Programme and if the early season goes well, she is aiming to step up to Novice and complete at Pony Trial, with one further year left competing on ponies.

“We have exciting plans for this year and I am determined to make it happen!!” Laura said “I know my aims may seem slightly ambitious but I know that Lyon has such a big heart and I have determination to get there’.

James Stocker, 21,  is a young event rider currently working as yard manager and rider for Parkfield Breeding in Blunsdon, Swindon in Wiltshire. James competes in Eventing, Dressage and Show Jumping. James has been riding his German Warmblood ‘Rudy Valentino’ (aka Stuart) for the last four seasons . They started at BE100 and rode for the South West BE100 team in their first year together. They are now riding at BE Advanced and have successfully completed FEI3* at Belton, Hartpbury and Blenheim.

‘I would love to think that one day I could ride at Badminton! I would also really like to represent Great Britain and am aiming to try to be selected for the Nations Cup Team this year.’

Olivia Sealy, 20, from Chippenham, Wiltshire, is a dressage rider competing at Medium/Advanced Medium level and Prix St George with Kington Langley Stud’s top competition horses, ex showjumping stallion ‘KL Mac’ and Croatian warmblood mare ‘Cleo’. Olivia is aiming for international Grand Prix in the future, her dream is to compete in the freestyle at Olympia one day!

‘I am very very driven with my ultimate aim to ride at International Grand Prix – I’m very passionate about dressage and work all hours to make sure practice makes perfect. My horses are what make get up in the morning!’

Each year we also have 3 runners-up, each of whom receives a two hour equine photoshoot with Jo and a mounted print.

We first met the British para-equestrian and Olympic gold medallist, Natasha Baker MBE, in 2013 when she kindly agreed to launch our new Equine Photography business at Whatley Manor. We were immediately blown away by Natasha’s inspirational outlook on life. We loved her down-to-earth personality, her incredible sense of fun, and of course, her deep passion for horses.

In 2014, she agreed to mentor our Young Riders and we began sponsoring her too. To say we love working with Natasha is an understatement! We photograph her a few times a year and each time we meet it’s fun, creative and different.

It’s an honour to be a part of her journey, and to have her be part of ours!

We’ve long been aware of the stunning beauty and stature of Westonbirt school from shooting weddings there over the years. We’ve also been fortunate to get to know some of the Equestrian team members through our equine photography in the Cotswolds, and our photoshoots with several young riders from the school. So when one of the mums mentioned that the school team was looking for a sponsor, we jumped at the chance!

We did our first shoot with the school team and their ponies, in the stunning grounds of the school, back in 2018 on a wintery February day, and we haven’t looked back.
We love the team’s passion and commitment to their sport – small and mighty!

Jo and Nic Hansford are based in Bristol, Bath, Somerset and are available to travel nationally and internationally.
