We were thrilled when Millie contacted us back in May about doing a photoshoot of her with her gorgeous horse, Tom. Tom is a 10 year old Palamino British warmblood – as you can see he is one stunning horse, and for us this was the first palamino we have photographed, so a real treat!

Millie first planned to come to our Equine Portrait Day in late May, but when Tom went lame she had to postphone, and decided to do a full shoot at home with her horses instead. We booked a date in late June and headed over to Malmesbury where Millie is based, at the family farm.

When we arrived we looked around the location, and instantly loved all the beautiful long wheat fields surrounding the farm set in beautiful Cotswolds countryside. It was a bit of a windy day, and overcast rather than sunny, perfect for capturing lots of soft, moody shots. Millie also has an indoor arena, so we decided also to set up a few lights to creat some artistic shots using our flash lighting.

Millie has had Tom for 3 years, and tells me he is a lovely, chilled out horse to own. Its not all been ‘plainsailing’ for these two either though – Tom has had a bad case of ‘headshaking’  (trigeminal mediated headshaking) so has had lots of treatment in the last year. Millie says that though its not cured, they are able to manage it now. “Tom is an extremely sensetive horse, and is a wonderful personality to have around – in a way his illness has brought us closer together.” She added, “Ive also had challenges in my life, and Tom has helped me with these”. Tom is a talented dressage horse, and in the future the plan is to compete together – at the moment the pair are training as Millie recently started a new job.

I asked Millie why she decided to have an Equine shoot now. “We had seen some of your work and felt it was a really good time to have some photographs taken of me with Tom to have some lovely memories. It was also great to have some taken of our dogs, and of Tom’s companion, Pete, an Exmoor pony”. “Im really pleased with the end results!” Millie said.

Feel free to share everyone – to book or find out more about our equine photography, you can drop us a line here, we’d love to hear from you.
