We had the most wonderful experience photographing Charlie and Juliana’s September wedding in the Algarve!
The couple live in Armacao de Pera, a small Algarve town close to the beautiful modern 5* Vidamar hotel where they held their wedding ceremony and reception. The hotel is stylish and elegant and lends a relaxed atmosphere, its also right by the beach! Charlie is English and Juliana Brazilian, so there was a complete mixture of nationalities there for the wedding! The ceremony and the speeches were conducted in both English and Portuguese – giving the whole day a wonderful cultural vibe. The couple’s al fresco ceremony took place underneath a wooden pergola, surrounded by palm trees and just a few hundred metres from the sea – what more could a Brazilian bride ask for??
This wedding was a little bit special to us. We tied the knot ourselves in the Algarve, not far from the Vidamar resort, so of course this part of Portugal holds special meaning and amazing memories for us. Not only that, but the groom’s mum Daphne, we have known for 15 years, and had helped us so much with our own wedding plans. I first met Daphne in Bath when I helped capture her own wedding to husband Keith; then Nic and I had photographed various birthdays and special occasions for the family. We had also spent time with Daphne, Keith and Charlie on our numerous trips to Portugal both for work and for leisure. So we were over the moon when Daphne contacted us and asked if we would photograph Charlie and Juliana’s special day – and so relieved that their date wasn’t already booked!
The week of the wedding was very hot, so we were relieved that the couple had opted for a late ceremony time – 5pm – which meant the sun would be going down and the temperature cooling. We started by capturing a little of the ceremony setting and the preparations of both parties. After the ceremony everyone celebrated with a drinks reception under the palm trees, while we did some group photos and then a few shots of the couple together, as the guests were being seated for the dinner. Fantastic speeches were followed by dinner and the band, in the meantime, were busy setting up inside for the first dance and the evening celebrations. As there wasn’t enough time to go to the beach with Charlie and Juliana on the day, we opted to visit a beautiful spot by the sea a day later to take photos – which was so worth it!!
This wedding was such a wonderful blend of fun, emotion, love, atmosphere and celebration, with its mix of cultures and languages – we felt honoured to be a part of it!
